"Scoto-Llullism in Early Modern Protestantism"
Els espais de Ramon Llull: context, pensament i projecció, ed. Rafael Ramis Barceló (Madrid: Editorial Sindéresis, 2026), pp. 727-746.
This chapter explores the phenomenon of Scoto-Llullism in early modern Protestantism. After exploring the history and historiography of Scoto-Llullism, it explores three important Protestant figures: Giulio Pace (1550–1635), Johann Heinrich Alsted (1588–1638) and Gisbertus Voetius (1589–1676). None of these thinkers endorsed the label of «Scoto-Llullism» – Protestants almost never borrowed such labels from their Roman Catholic counterparts. Nonetheless, they embodied the ethos of Scoto-Llullism, especially the use of the formal distinction to bind together reality in such a way that supports a profound exemplarism between the triune God and creation.
