This chapter argues that Bernhard of Lavinheta’s Explanatio (1523) was a fundamental precursor to Giordano Bruno’s Lullism. Lavinheta integrated Ramon Lull’s Art into the university curriculum, establishing an encyclopedic framework for logic and mnemotechnics. By synthesizing Lullian principles with scholastic logic, specifically the search for the «natural middle term» Lavinheta provided a structured grid for categorizing knowledge. Giordano Bruno subsequently adapted these Lullian figures in works like Cantus Circaeus and the De Lampade Combinatoria Lulliana to develop a mnemonic system infused with ethical and metaphysical import. This intellectual tradition influenced later scholars via Zetzner’s widely circulated XVII-century anthology.
